Leed / GMA Corporation

Industry snapshot – Leed / GMA Corporation

The problem

Leed Engineering had an existing fleet of water trucks used all over Australia for different civil contracts. New requirements required the truck to be washed prior to exiting site. They had the water available on the truck used with the high flow hydraulic driven pumps for the spray bar and hose reel.

The solution

Mike Quinn, GMA General Manager engaged SPITWATER to add a hydraulic driven pressure cleaner to operate at 3000 psi 21 lpm. We removed their existing hose reel then added another one for the 30 meters of high-pressure hose, single RL56 gun and lance with holster. We then moved some plumbing around, made a “T” into the hydraulic system to power the SPITWATER hydraulic motor. By using an “L” port valve we were able to divert the flow to the SPITWATER when required returning to the oil reservoir including case drain, not having to run a completely new hydraulic system.

The benefits

  • Leed were able to clean their trucks abiding to the contract using the water already in their trucks

  • Minimal expense for the client

  • Trucks had minimal down time to have pumps installed

  • Compact unit with custom guard, which was also then made strong enough for a step

Hitachi Construction Equipment
The Problem Hitachi Construction Equipment have a large range of excavators and plant equipment for sale, hire and service.  They have two sites providing excellent coverage to the Melbourne CBD and surrounds. Being able to present equipment to hire clients clean and professional is key.  Their own Service Department need to clean so as they can access parts and conduct servicing. They have to clean big, fast & cost effective when dealing with heaps of caked on clay and debris. The Solution Having used a Spitwater hot wash 3 phase unit before – they invested in a larger model to increase the water flow and pressure.  The SW2021 at 21 lpm and 3000 psi was just the right unit.  They also invested in using the SUTTNER KW fittings for easy lance and foaming change over. The Benefits With water flow being KING the increased flow that this machine has provided - wash bay times have come down by around 25%. Improved wash bay through put has allowed for increased machine hire units ready to go out with no hold ups. The same solution was rolled out at both sites, making it easy for driver & operator to use the same units and set up when working at either site. The new units have been set up with a PM Program allowing for maximum machine up time.  Hitachi need the wash bay operational at all times.

Citywide
The Problem Citywide are a nationwide Facility services business, having contracts with many local government councils, and businesses. With a local Melbourne municipality, they needed a strike force vehicle to do local cleaning and graffiti clean ups. The vehicle chosen was a single cab ute, for getting down lane ways, local parks and small local business car parks and shopping centre strips. The Solution Having twin toolboxes to be installed either side of the tray – a rotomolded 220 litre tank was installed matched to a Spitwater HP251AE – 15lpm at 3650 psi key start Honda powered cold water pressure washer. This supplied water to a 20-metre hose on a retractable reel, passenger side mounted for OHS safety.  The tank was plumbed with a fast fill access at the passenger side and ultimately a shelf was installed over the tank for extra internal storage The Benefits A strike force vehicle with portable high-pressure water cleaning.  Being able to apply a graffiti removal chemical then wash off without needing to connect to a local tap – means quicker and accurate cleaning. With more efficiency has meant more sites cleaned in a day – better public presentation and less rate payer complaints. Operator safety was paramount with this build.  The key start pressure washer is located within arm’s reach of the rear, gun storage next to the angled retractable reel. User feedback has been the best design ever rolled out – operators love grabbing the keys to this ute!
